Is It Worth Getting Professional Packers to Move Across Town?

Sep 14, 2024 | Moving

Is it worth getting professional packers to pack and move your belongings across town? In some ways, moving across town can make one of life’s more stressful tasks a whole lot easier. You probably already know the area, and you don’t have to worry about sending freight across the country (or the globe) just to keep your furniture and treasured possessions. But, at the same time, moving apartments, houses, or even offices can be very difficult and time-consuming. The logistics alone can be a nightmare for someone to take on by themselves. Read on to find out if professional packers are right for you to ease the burden of a cross-town move.

Should I Use Professional Packers to Move a Short Distance?

In the vast majority of cases, the answer is absolutely yes! Moving can be a huge burden, and you can put many things at risk by trying to do it on your own. You could risk injuring yourself or someone else by trying to move heavy objects; you could also risk breaking family heirlooms, dropping TVs, or chipping expensive furniture. Moving a short distance doesn’t eliminate many of the risks involved with moving big boxes and large household items. It just means it will take less time to get them from Point A to Point B.

So the short answer is yes, in our professional opinion, you should utilize professional packers to pack up your belongings, load them into a secure truck, move them to the new location, and unpack them again. It’s well worth the price to keep you and your possessions safe!

How Close Is Too Close?

Moving across town is one thing — but what about moving across the street? The truth is that, if you can easily (and safely) move items by foot, you may not require a professional moving and packing service. However, this situation is less common, and it doesn’t take away from the fact that you’ll need to spend a lot of time and energy moving heavy objects from one place to another. There are still all the same risks involved. For this reason, we think it’s better to determine if packing services are right for your move based on how much stuff you have — not how far you have to go.

Distance vs. Quantity

We’ve already covered the fact that distance isn’t that important when deciding whether or not to use professional packing services. It really comes down to how much stuff you have to move! If you just have a fold-up table, a TV, a mattress, and a few chairs, you probably don’t need professional packers and movers. You can save a few bucks and ask a friend to help you with anything that’s too heavy or cumbersome to move on your own.

However, if you’re like most people, you probably have tons of books, clothes, kitchen appliances, sofas, chairs, tables, electronics — and the list goes on and on. Boxing and moving these things on your own, even if it’s just across town, can be a logistical nightmare. First, you have to find the free time to do it. Second, you’ll almost certainly need to enlist the help of family or friends. And third, you’ll need to make sure you have at least one vehicle that can hold the bulky stuff. It’s a lot of details to work out. Why go to all that effort when you can get professionals to do 99% of the work while you sit back and relax?
